5 Things To Ask Before Your Design Project Begins

Every design project comes with its own unique needs and challenges. To ensure that you are setting yourself up for success there are key questions that you need to ask yourself before engaging your designer. Asking these questions will save yourself and or your company time and money.

Let’s take a look at what questions you should ask and why.

What is my goal for this design project?

Before engaging your graphic designer, it is important to determine the purpose of the design. Start by asking yourself what is the desired result of the design? What is my brand message? What story do I want to tell my clients?

Having a clear understanding of what you want the design to achieve, will help you conceptualize the messaging and call to action on your design. This puts your designers in the best position to effectively communicate your message through the use of colors, font, images, and other design elements.

What happens if I have more than one desired result for my design? While it may be tempting to try to squeeze multiple goals in one design, it's best to avoid this. Having too many goals for one design, will result in your design partially appealing to all groups, not really appealing to any specific group.

The best approach is to create separate designs, each with a specific purpose.

Who is your target audience?

Targeting too many audiences at once can dampen the effectiveness of your visual content. It is important that you take time to determine who your target audience is; their age, gender, social class, and interest.

Knowing your audience affects the way in which your designer incorporates key design elements. For example, a flyer for a senior home may require larger fonts, while an invitation for a child’s birthday party may use bright colors and graphics.

What is your budget?

Your business will be in need of design at some point of its development. For many business owners, it can be hard to determine how much money should be spent on designs.

To figure out your design budget, you are going to need to determine the types of designs you need/want and its possible return on investment.

Based on how many designs your company may need, it may be beneficial for you to explore a monthly subscription of unlimited graphic designs. It will allow you to have a set goal of how much money will be spent on designs, while achieving all your brand's design needs.
